With the silly season almost over, I’ve started thinking about the next big event on the horizon – NEW YEARS EVE! Now, full disclosure, New Year’s generally isn’t my night. I don’t know, I’ve just never really had ‘the best New Year’s EVA!’ – maybe it’s because I’ve never done a DIY New Year’s before? Well, that’s all about to change with these amazing DIY origami confetti poppers and matching party hat I whipped up! And you can too!
Now, these little poppers don’t look like much more than folded paper triangles, but believe me they pack a punch! To make them, you’ll need:
– A4 copy paper + printer
– Confetti (or coloured paper and a circle punch!)
First, print out this template (which has helpful fold guidelines!) and trim the edges. Then fold in half both ways, make a nice crease and unfold.
Then flip over and fold each corner into the centre crease.
Now hold in half lengthways.
Fold the bottom edges to the middle (following the guidelines) to make this weird diamond shape!
Then simply fold in half and your popper is done!
Now simply pour a lil’ confetti (I made mine with some left over coloured paper and a circle punch!) into the inner folded parts.
To ‘pop’ your popper, pinch the two separate bottom corners and, with the confetti-filled opening facing outwards, raising you arm high above your head and bring it down fast! You’ll hear a ‘snap’ and confetti will go everywhere! Yay!
And to make the hat? Well, just print this template and cut it out!
Secure the tab with some tape, staple on some string or elastic to the sides and hey presto – a cute hat! I also whipped up a quick fork pom-pom for the top.
